The Global Entrepreneurship Week Ghana 2012 was officially launched at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra today.
The week, starting from 12th to the 18th of November 2012, is aimed at fostering job creation and economic growth through entrepreneurship.
Present at the event were Dr. Ekwow Spir Garbrah(Global Entrepreneurship Week Ambassador),Mr. Ben Eghan(Cabinet Secretary, office of the president), Brett Nakatsu(Regional Operations Manager, Start Up Weekend Accra Facilitator), and Joe Tackie a successful entrepreneur.
It was encouraging to see effort from both the public and private sector for tech start-up entrepreneurs during the launch.
Signature events for Global Entrepreneurship Week Ghana which will happen within the week include;
- StartUp Weekend Accra which will be held from the 16th to the 18th of November. This activity is aimed at bringing individuals together to build and validate ideas within 54 hours. The importance of this event cannot be overstated. This is because last year’s StartUp Weekend Accra winners proceeded to get funded by the Meltwater foundation and have launched their fully-fledged business now.
- Entrepreneurs Go-to-school where entrepreneurs from various industries go to schools across the nation to inspire, educate and mentor young people on the importance of entrepreneurship by sharing their entrepreneurial journey and experiences.
The event was also an opportunity for Dropifi to pre-launch their application. Dropifi were the winners of the first ever Start-up Weekend Accra and have since then gone on and built a business on the back of that success. They have recently been announced as global winners of Startup Open by Global Entrepreneurship Week. They have also been mentioned on Yahoo Finance, Forbes, Pioneer Challenge, prweb, huffington post, among others.
Young entrepreneurs who aspire to the heights of Dropifi and beyond can also have the opportunity to take part in the 2nd Startup Weekend Accra at the premises of Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology can register via this link.
The organizers have promised that this year’s winners will get more direct support and more mentorship than they provided for Dropifi. This is an opportunity for young up-and-coming entrepreneurs in Ghana.
